Asia Society Texas Launches “The House of Pikachu: Art, Anime, and Pop Culture” Exhibition on October 17

Asia Society Texas has announced the launch of its latest exhibition “The House of Pikachu: Art, Anime, and Pop Culture,” set to take place from October 17, 2025, to March 15, 2026. This exhibition will be hosted at the Asia Society Texas Center in Houston, Texas.
The new exhibition is characterized as “a survey of the present-day, far-reaching influence of Japanese animation on contemporary art,” showcasing 25 artists from various countries including Japan, Brazil, China, Mexico, Côte d’Ivoire, Texas, among others.
Throughout the exhibits of “The House of Pikachu: Art, Anime, and Pop Culture,” guests will encounter whimsical gestures and sophisticated fan art paying tribute to cherished animated classics such as Astro Boy, Dragon Ball, and Sailor Moon, as well as an immersive tribute to Pokémon’s Pikachu.

Some highlights of the exhibition include:

  • • Time and Light by Yoshitaka Amano
  • • Gao Hang — a Houston-based artist recognized for his retro-futurist styles drawing from the vocabulary of ’90s video games, who has crafted a new Pikachu painting that captures the iconic essence of this cherished character.
  • • Monsieur Zohore — an artist who spends time between the United States and Cote D’Ivoire, having grown up with an intrigue for and admiration of anime.
    • ○ He is producing a new large-scale painting Houston, We Have A Problem (2025). This piece showcases an imaginative free-for-all featuring a mix of postwar anime and manga characters such as: Kurama from Naruto, Tetsuo from Akira, Frieza and Cell from Dragon Ball Z, Inuyasha from Inuyasha, Griffith from Berserk, Char Aznable from Mobile Suit Gundam, Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell, Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop, Kamina from Gurren Lagann, along with Shinji Ikari, Rei Ayanami, and Gendo Ikari from Neon Genesis Evangelion.
