©防衛隊第3部隊 ©松本直也／集英社The newest Kaiju No. 8 character visual has been unveiled, showcasing the formidable Isao Shinomiya. The second season aired its initial episode (13th in total for the series) in Japan on July 19, 2025, and will have an overall broadcast of 11 episodes.
Similar to the first season, the distribution plan for the second season includes streaming on Twitter/X, in addition to Crunchyroll and Ani One Asia ULTRA.
The initial season debuted in April 2024 and continued for 12 episodes until June 2024. A compilation of the first season along with the Hoshina’s Day Off OVA was screened in theaters in Japan for three weeks, starting from March 28, 2025. Hoshina’s Day Off was also broadcast in Japan on July 5, 2025.
The anime is adapted from Naoya Matsumoto’s action manga series, which launched on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ online platform on July 3, 2020, and concluded on July 18, 2025. As of March 2025, fifteen tankobon volumes have been published, with a 16th volume scheduled to be released in Japan on September 4, 2025. VIZ Media has licensed the manga for English publication in North America.
The manga has inspired several spinoffs, including titles such as Kaiju No.8: B-Side and Kaiju No. 8 Relax. A four-chapter side-story light novel by Keiji Ando was published in Japan on November 4, 2022.
A new video game from Akatsuki Games is set to launch on the iOS App Store and Google Play on August 31, 2025. The game will also become available on Steam at a future date. Pre-registration opened on April 26, 2025.

Thanks to Isao Shinomiya, Kafka Hibino avoids transformation into a weapon. As new recruits arrive at their stations, Kafka encounters Gen Narumi, the Defense Force’s strongest member and leader of the First Division. Kafka taps into the power of Kaiju No. 8 to compel Gen to acknowledge his strength. Meanwhile, Kaiju No. 9 lurks in the shadows, presenting the greatest threat the Defense Force has ever faced.
