©防衛隊第3部隊 ©松本直也／集英社An action-packed primary trailer for Kaiju No.8 Season 2 has been unveiled, featuring several action sequences highlighting Gen Narumi in combat.
The trailer, titled “Rising Threat,” also gives a sneak peek at the newly revealed opening theme “You Can’t Run From Yourself” by AURORA.
Additional announcements include Hiroki Yasumoto and Kana Hanazawa being cast as Eiji Hasegawa and Rin Shinonome, respectively. Moreover, an advance screening is set to take place at TOHO Cinemas Hibiya on July 13 JST.
Kaiju No.8 Season 2 is scheduled to debut on July 19 JST. The anime is adapted from the manga published by Shueisha, created by Naoya Matsumoto, which first appeared in 2020 on Shonen Jump+ and currently has 15 tankoubon volumes as of March 2025. VIZ Media summarizes the manga as:
Kafka aspires to eventually fulfill his childhood promise to join the Japan Defense Force alongside his friend Mina. While she battles kaiju as the captain of the Third Division, Kafka is relegated to cleaning up after her fights. A new policy change opens the door for Kafka to join the Defense Force, prompting him to attempt to enlist again. However, there’s a snag—he’s been placed on the Defense Force’s neutralization list under the alias Kaiju No. 8.
The anime’s inaugural season debuted in April 2024. A compilation of that season and the Hoshina’s Day Off special were screened in theaters simultaneously for three weeks starting March 28 JST.
Similar to its predecessor, Season 2’s distribution plans feature streaming via X (formerly Twitter). Crunchyroll has confirmed that it will stream the upcoming season.
