In Re:Zero, we’ve met five Sin Archbishops to date: Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti in Season 1, followed by four more in Season 3.
As Re:Zero blends shounen elements with fantasy, power scaling inevitably becomes a topic of discussion. With several Sin Archbishops introduced, the query arises—who stands as the strongest among them?
Before delving into the conversation, I would like to highlight a few points. The powers that the Sin Archbishops wield are truly extraordinary. Therefore, directly comparing them to one another can indeed be quite challenging.
Interestingly, despite their overwhelming powers, each of these authorities seems to have a flaw. While Subaru plays a key role in defeating some of them, characters like Liliana also serve as a counter to their abilities.

With these considerations in mind, let’s explore the strongest Sin Archbishops in Re:Zero. Just a reminder that Pandora is designated as a witch and not an archbishop, so I won’t be including her in this list.
1. Regulus Corneas – Sin Archbishop of Greed
Tappei Nagatsuki, the author of Re:Zero, has confirmed that Regulus is the strongest among the Sin Archbishops. There exists a significant gap between him and the others, meaning he could easily overpower them if he desired.
His Authority of Greed provides him with nearly unbreakable defenses, rendering him invulnerable unless his specific weakness is revealed. This defense is not limited to physical attacks but extends to magic and other phenomena. Subaru even refers to him as a distortion in space-time.
Regulus’s attacks are equally formidable, as demonstrated during his confrontation with Reinhard, showcasing the immense offensive and defensive capabilities of his authority.
The only individual capable of defeating Regulus without uncovering his secret is likely Satella, though that encounter could easily result in a stalemate.

As mentioned earlier, Subaru was crucial in bringing Regulus’ weakness to light. However, he adeptly conceals the secrets of his Authority, affirming that Regulus Corneas indeed stands as the strongest Sin Archbishop without question.
2. Sin Archbishops of Gluttony – Roy Alphard, Lye Batenkaitos, and their Sister
Lye Batenkaitos, Gluttony
It may come across as though I’m greatly elevating the Gluttony siblings by placing them in the second position, but I believe this is a fitting rank for them.
Truth be told, they are recognized for possessing the best combat skills among the archbishops, thanks to the knowledge gained from the myriad memories they have consumed.
Their combat proficiency, enhanced by the experiences they have absorbed, is evident in Roy’s battles against Julius and Ricardo, both of whom are seasoned warriors in the series.
Their ability conjured from Dorkell’s leaper skill alone made them a significant nuisance in arc 6, placing Subaru and the others in precarious situations multiple times.
Moreover, the Solar Eclipse ability of their authority unlocks their true power potential, making a second-place ranking hard to dispute. Lye’s ability to stand against a horned Ram further solidifies their strength.
Although their Authority of Greed isn’t a direct combat-enhancing authority, it offers them a notable advantage in battles. The capacity to consume names and memories not only grants them an edge over opponents but also instills fear.
3. Sirius Romanee-Conti – Sin Archbishop of Wrath
Choosing who to place here was quite difficult as the Sin Archbishop of Lust was also a strong contender. Ultimately, I opted for Sirius due to her Authority of Wrath.
This ability is not only hazardous but nearly impossible to counter. Her power amplifies and disperses emotions like anger and despair, creating a living nightmare during combat, particularly when innocent bystanders are affected.
Countering her requires a character like Liliana, who can neutralize emotional chaos, or sacrificing innocents trapped within her authority.
Enhancing her lethality are her fire magic and deadly golden chains, which she wields with exceptional precision.
Sirius is also noted as the physically strongest among the Sin Archbishops, augmenting her already formidable nature.
She sometimes doesn’t receive the recognition she deserves for her strength. Possessing an ability capable of throwing an entire city into chaos, along with combat skills that allow her to confront skilled opponents like Priscilla, it is only fitting that she ranks third on this list!
4. Capella Emerada Lugunica – Sin Archbishop of Lust
Next up, in 4th place, is the utterly grotesque Capella. Many argue that her ability is overpowering. While this is indeed true, I believe her combat skills don’t compare to the others.
Her powers, combined with her unpleasant personality, make her a dangerously formidable opponent.
Capella’s Authority of Lust provides her with practical immortality (due to remarkable regeneration), allowing her to transform herself and others into abominations or dangerous creatures, rendering her unpredictable and nearly impossible to suppress.
While Capella is challenging to kill, restraining or sealing her might not be too difficult.
Her offensive capabilities are not to be overlooked, as they can be particularly devastating. Just imagine her unleashing a horde of mindless dragons upon a city.
However, in terms of offensive prowess, she doesn’t quite measure up to the powers of Gluttony or even Sirius, hence her lower ranking.
Her poisonous blood, connections to the royal family of Lugunica, and potential links to the dragon suggest that her full capabilities are yet to be unveiled, leaving room for her position to change in the future.
5. Petelgeuse Romanee-Conti – Sin Archbishop of Sloth
Finally, we arrive at Petelgeuse. What a huge disservice in my opinion. Technically speaking, his authority ranks just below Regulus’ because, without Subaru around, detecting his attacks would be nearly impossible, making him a truly troublesome adversary.
Moreover, being a spirit, Petelgeuse has the ability to switch bodies as required, yet once again, he was primarily thwarted due to Subaru’s unique abilities.
Nonetheless, he ranks the lowest among the Archbishops due to his incompatibility with the Sloth Witch Factor.
His erratic behavior, combined with the fact that his power is rendered ineffective against Subaru’s Return by Death, ultimately positions him as the weakest on this list.
