The Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus TV anime represents the latest addition to the Rascal Does Not Dream anime franchise, which adapts the supernatural teen drama light novel series authored by Hajime Kamoshida and illustrated by Keji Mizoguchi. The new series, marking the initiation of the āUniversity Arc,ā debuted on July 5.
The light novel series began its publication in 2014 under the Dengeki Bunko label, releasing its final main volume in October 2024, followed by a collection of short stories due in July 2025. Yen Press summarizes the premise as:
Bunny girls do not inhabit libraries. This is merely common knowledge. Yet, thatās precisely where Sakuta encounters one in the wild. Even more puzzling is the identity of the bunny girl: Mai Sakurajima, a girl one year older than Sakuta, renowned at their school for her acting career despite currently being on hiatus. To add to the mystery, it seems that nobody else in the library can perceive Mai whatsoever, regardless of her actions orā¦attire. Curious to unravel this enigma and perhaps grow closer to this captivating upperclassman, Sakuta embarks on an investigation into why an unforgettable bunny girl keeps becoming completely invisible.
Past anime adaptations include the 2018 Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai series and three films: the 2019 Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl and 2023ās Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out and Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid.
The light novel series has also inspired manga adaptations of its volumes.
