THE RIBBON HERO, the upcoming film inspired by Osamu Tezuka’s Ribbon no Kishi (Princess Knight), has unveiled its final trailer along with additional voice cast announcements. This marks the first anime project from the franchise in 27 years, set to debut globally exclusively on Netflix on August 8, 2026.
The original Ribbon no Kishi manga first appeared in 1953, telling the story of Sapphire, a princess who possesses both masculine and feminine hearts and takes on the identity of a masked hero. A TV anime adaptation followed in 1967-1968, with the latest animated entry being a short film released in 1999. The official synopsis:

Sapphire is the princess of a kingdom that no longer exists. After losing everything in her homeland of Silverland due to a calamity known as “Nergal,” she wanders aimlessly until she reaches Goldland.
Haunted by her past, she starts to discover a flicker of hope from the kindness of the people around her. However, the calamity Nergal reemerges, threatening to extinguish the light of this new land, just as it did her homeland.
“I won’t lose anything ever again. And I won’t let anyone else lose anything either.” Wiping away her tears of sorrow, she draws her sword. This is the tale of a solitary hero who ties her ribbon and vows to challenge her fate.
