‘THe Ribbon Hero’ Unveils Final Trailer & New Cast Announcement

The final trailer and additional voice cast members for The Ribbon Hero — the new adaptation of Osamu Tezuka’s classic manga Princess Knight — were released today, just in time for its August 8 premiere on Netflix. The movie is produced by studio Twin Engine.

In the final trailer, we witness our heroine Sapphire being driven from her homeland, forming bonds with new companions in a foreign land, and courageously facing the impending threat, Nergal, as the Ribbon Knight. After numerous attacks from Nergal, the people have nearly given up their resistance. However, Sapphire remains steadfast. Clad in a veil, she transforms and enters the fray with unyielding determination. Her bravery inspires those around her, igniting a positive change in the hearts of her allies.

Simultaneously, the enigmatic character Velvet delivers unsettling dialogue that amplifies the tension and mystery surrounding their true intentions. When Sapphire hesitates and expresses her doubts, it is the encouragement from her companions — those who have faith in her — that propels her onward.

The new preview also introduces five additional cast members voicing Sapphire’s fellow workers at the mining site: Yoshimasa Hosoya as Rock; Mito Tsukino as Hecate; Yusuke Tezuka as Chorogy; Lunlun as Chick; and Debidebi Debiru as Tack. Mito Tsukino, Lunlun, and Debidebi Debiru are VTubers who belong to the virtual YouTuber group NIJISANJI. For all three, this is the first time they are taking on roles as voice actors in an anime production.

The Ribbon Hero signifies the feature directorial debut of Yuki Igarashi, who gained recognition for solo key-animating the ending sequence of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1. He previously directed Star Wars: Visions, delivering the highly acclaimed segment Lop & Ochō.

The film also showcases original character designs by kei Mochizuki (Fate/Grand Order, Touken Ranbu), with Mai Yoneyama (ending director, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Lazarus) contributing on character concepts. Issei Arakaki serves as the animation character designer, while Cedric Herold takes on the role of art director. The animation is produced by Outline studio, under Igarashi’s leadership.

Synopsis: Sapphire is the princess of a kingdom that has vanished. After losing everything in her homeland of Silverland to the disaster known as “Nergal,” she wanders hopelessly until she reaches Goldland.

Though weighed down by her past, she starts to discover a flicker of hope through the kindness of the local people. But just as she begins to embrace her new peaceful life, calamity strikes again as Nergal returns. The very despair that once turned her homeland into ashes now threatens to extinguish the light from this land too.

“I won’t lose anything ever again. And I won’t allow anyone else to lose anything either.” Wiping away her tears of sorrow, the girl draws her sword. This is the tale of a lone hero who ties her ribbon and vows to challenge her destiny.
