Ⓒ空知英秋･大崎知仁／集英社･「3年Z組銀八先生」製作委員会Gintama spin-off 3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei is set to start on October 6 JST (effectively on October 7 at 12 AM JST). A main trailer and visual were unveiled along with the announcement of the premiere date.
The new anime draws inspiration from the light novel series authored by Tomohito Osaki, depicting Gintoki as a high school teacher named Ginpachi Sakata. It parodies the Japanese drama 3-nen B-gumi Kinpachi-sensei, which was first aired in 1979 and received the four-hour Final special in 2011. The original Gintama anime has included shorts featuring the Ginpachi-sensei theme.

The 3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei anime is part of a multi-year Gintama 20th anniversary project encompassing both the original manga and the anime. The original Gintama comedy manga by Hideaki Sorachi began in 2003 and concluded its 77th and final tankoubon volume in 2019, while the TV anime started airing in Japan in 2006 and continued until 2018 across four seasons.
