The film serves as a prequel to Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom, which grossed over 5 billion yen and attracted 3 million viewers, making it the highest-grossing theatrical release in Gundam’s history.
The freshly released teaser visual for Seed Freedom Zero focuses on Shinn Asuka, a key character from Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny. The screenplay was crafted during the development of Seed Freedom by series composition writers Chiaki Morosawa, Shigeru Morita, and director Mitsuo Fukuda.
“This is the final work completed by my late wife Chiaki Morosawa, the series composition writer. Until recently, I feared that the screenplay might stay shelved indefinitely, but now it has come to fruition as a film thanks to the passionate support from our fans,” Fukuda expressed. “This narrative explores the characters’ desires that Chiaki was eager to depict, linking Destiny and Freedom. I truly hope everyone enjoys it.”

Alongside Shinn Asuka are Lunamaria Hawke, his academy mate, and Agnes Giebenrath, who first appeared in Seed Freedom. Joining the story is Leonard Valway, who makes his animated debut in this film. Returning characters also include Kira Yamato, Athrun Zala, and Yzak Jule.
Shinn Asuka (Matthew Erickson/Kenichi Suzumura) became part of ZAFT after the tragic loss of his family during Orbs invasion. Initially used by Dullindal to confront Kira and his allies, he reconciled with them post-war. Shinn chose to join COMPS in search of a war-free world and now trains in Orb with the Archangel.
Lunamaria Hawke (TBA/Maaya Sakamoto) is a ZAFT pilot and Shinn’s classmate, who fought alongside him on the Minerva. She possesses a reliable character and strong will. After the previous conflict, Lunamaria decided to join COMPS with Shinn and continues to support him during their training aboard the Archangel.
Agnes Giebenrath (TBA/Houko Kuwashima) is a ZAFT pilot who was Shinn’s classmate and a friend of Lunamaria during their time at the academy. Known as the “Moonlight Valkyrie,” she serves as a public relations representative for the military. Agnes travels to Orb on a mission to convey the Strike Freedom and Infinite Justice.
Leonard Valway (TBA/Daisuke Ono) is one of the “Reds,” ranking in the top ten at military academy, dubbed the “Raging Lion.” He joins Agnes on the journey to Orb for transporting the Strike Freedom and Infinite Justice.
Kira Yamato (Matt Hill/Soichiro Hoshi), who initially fought for the Earth Alliance Forces, later became an independent force working with Lacus to end the conflict. He turned down the Destiny Plan and assisted in Dullindal’s defeat, yet now contemplates how he can contribute to a chaotic world.
Athrun Zala (Sam Vincent/Akira Ishida), a former ZAFT soldier who clashed with his childhood friend Kira, eventually recognized the futility of hatred and chose to fight alongside Kira. After the conflict, he remained with the Orb forces, aiding Cagalli with intelligence operations through Terminal.
Yzak Jule (TBA/Tomokazu Seki) is a ZAFT pilot, previously an academy peer and rival of Athrun. Currently, he serves as an intelligence officer at PLANT staff headquarters. He visits Orb with the mission of transporting the Strike Freedom and Infinite Justice.
