Good Smile Company Unveils Temporary Suspension of US Shipments

Good Smile Company has temporarily halted its US shipments, a decision stemming from the repercussions of the US government’s July 30 executive order to suspend the ““de minimis” exemption “for all countries.”

The figure company stated that its August 26 announcement is due to how Japan Post has, in response to the executive order, “suspended acceptance of small packets, parcels, and EMS (merchandise) addressed to the United States effective Wednesday, 27th August 2025.”

“We are currently reviewing alternative shipping methods and the prospects for resuming shipments. Once a course of action has been determined, we will provide further updates and resume shipments as soon as possible,” Good Smile added.

“De minimis” offers duty and tax exemptions to US-bound shipments valued at less than US$800. The current US administration initially removed it for China and Hong Kong in May, and the July 30 executive order asserts that the expansion of the move — effective August 29 — is intended to counter “unusual and extraordinary threats, which have their source in whole or substantial part outside the United States, to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States.”

Japan Post explained that “On August 15, 2025, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced new guidelines regarding the elimination of de minimis rules, which require that transport operators pay customs deposits to CBP and prepare customs declarations. The procedures that transport operators and postal operators in each country must follow to comply with these guidelines are not clear, however, making implementation difficult.”

Additionally, countries like Singapore, Australia, Germany, and others have suspended package shipments to the US.

In April, Good Smile US announced that new pre-orders would be temporarily paused and that shipments to the US would be delayed due to the US government’s tariff policies.

In May, it resumed pre-orders with the implementation of an “Estimated Tariff Fee.”
