HIDIVE revealed last week that it has incorporated all 42 episodes of the 1981 sci-fi adventure TV anime series Queen Millennia, as of September 2, 2025, at 1:00 PM EST. The anime is presently streaming in Japanese with English subtitles.
Sentai Filmworks also launched a complete Blu-ray collection of the series on September 2, 2025.
The 42-episode TV anime series aired in Japan from April 16, 1981, to March 25, 1982. Toei Doga (now known as Toei Animation) handled the animation production.
The anime is adapted from Leiji Matsumoto’s manga series Shin Taketori Monogatari Sennen Joo, which was serialized in the Sankei Shimbun and Nishinippon Sports Japanese newspapers from January 28, 1980, to May 11, 1983. Five tankobon volumes were initially published in Japan.
The series has also inspired a two-volume novelization, two light novel series, and an animated film retelling released in 1982.
HIDIVE outlines the main synopsis of Queen Millennia as:
In 1999, Professor Amamori finds that a new planet in our solar system is headed towards a collision with Earth. As doomsday preparations commence and the Millennial Bandits scheme for planetary annihilation, Amamori’s nephew Hajime moves in and begins to suspect that Yayoi, his uncle’s assistant, isn’t precisely as she appears. Join Hajime as he explores the mysteries of the universe in the classic space opera QUEEN MILLENNIA!
