The first season launched in April 2024 and comprised 12 episodes until June 2024. A compilation of season one and the Hoshina’s Day Off OVA had theatrical screenings in Japan for three weeks, starting on March 28, 2025. Hoshina’s Day Off aired in Japan on July 5, 2025.
The anime is adapted from Naoya Matsumoto’s action manga series, which debuted on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ online platform on July 3, 2020, and concluded on July 18, 2025. As of March 2025, fifteen tankobon volumes have been published, with a 16th volume slated for release in Japan on September 4, 2025. VIZ Media has licensed the manga for English publication in North America.
The manga has also inspired spin-off titles including Kaiju No.8: B-Side and Kaiju No. 8 Relax. Additionally, a four-chapter side-story light novel by Keiji Ando was published in Japan on November 4, 2022.
An upcoming video game by Akatsuki Games is set for release on the iOS App Store and Google Play on August 31, 2025. The game will also be available on Steam at a later date. Pre-registration began on April 26, 2025.
