The anime’s second season debuted its first episode (13th overall in the series) in Japan on July 19, 2025, and will air a total of 11 episodes.
An English-subtitled version and Japanese version of the trailer have been made available on TOHO Animation’s YouTube channel.
The new story arc will commence with the second season’s seventh episode (19th episode overall in the series), which is set to air on August 30, 2025.
Most of the primary staff from season one will reprise their respective roles for the second season. They include Shigeyuki Miya (previously co-director) as director, Yuichiro Kido (Dr. Stone: Science Future, Hoshina’s Day Off scriptwriter) serving as series screenwriter and scriptwriter, Tetsuya Nishio as character designer and chief animation director, Mahiro Maeda as kaiju designer, and Studio Khara overseeing kaiju supervision (design and artwork). Production I.G is responsible for the animation production for the second season.
Meanwhile, the anime’s main voice cast features:
- • Masaya Fukunishi as Kafka Hibino
- • Asami Seto as Mina Ashiro
- • Wataru Kato as Reno Ichikawa
- • Fairouz Ai as Kikoru Shinomiya
- • Kengo Kawanishi as Soshiro Hoshina
Similar to the first season, the distribution plan for the second season includes streaming on Twitter/X, as well as on Crunchyroll and Ani One Asia ULTRA.
The first season began airing in April 2024 and consisted of 12 episodes until June 2024. A compilation of season one and the Hoshina’s Day Off OVA were screened in theaters across Japan for three weeks, starting on March 28, 2025. Hoshina’s Day Off then aired in Japan on July 5, 2025.
The anime is adapted from Naoya Matsumoto’s action manga series, which started serialization in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ online website on July 3, 2020, and concluded on July 18, 2025. A total of fifteen tankobon volumes have been published by March 2025, with a 16th volume set to release in Japan on September 4, 2025. VIZ Media has licensed the manga for publication in English in North America.
The manga has also inspired spinoff titles like Kaiju No.8: B-Side and Kaiju No. 8 Relax. Additionally, a four-chapter side-story light novel by Keiji Ando was released in Japan on November 4, 2022.
A video game from Akatsuki Games will launch on the iOS App Store and Google Play on August 31, 2025, with plans for a Steam release in the future.
Crunchyroll is streaming the second season of Kaiju No. 8, describing the main premise as:
Thanks to Isao Shinomiya, Kafka Hibino evades being transformed into a weapon. As new recruits report to their assignments, Kafka encounters Gen Narumi, the strongest individual in the Defense Force and captain of the First Division. Kafka harnesses the power of Kaiju No. 8 to compel Gen to acknowledge his strength. Meanwhile, Kaiju No. 9 waits in the shadows as the most significant danger the Defense Force has ever confronted looms.
