REMOW Co. Ltd. has officially revealed the television anime adaptation of Liar’s Game, a psychological thriller that has engaged manga fans globally for 20 years. The series is scheduled for release in 2026, with global streaming information to be provided later.
“This year marks the 20 years since Liar Game debuted in Young Jump, and this anniversary serves as the announcement of the anime adaptation of the series,” original creator Shinobu Kaitani mentioned in the announcement. “Initially, it began serialization under the theme of ‘The importance of trust,’ but over these 20 years, we have experienced the COVID-19 Pandemic, the rapid growth of social media, and a world filled with increasing distrust… I feel that now, the theme of my series is more pertinent than ever.
“Thus, I believe it’s fitting that we get the Liar Game anime in this era. Whether you are nostalgic for this series or encountering it for the first time, I am confident that this story will resonate with you in some manner. I hope you anticipate it.”

Liar Game was serialized in Weekly Young Jump from 2005 to 2015 and is now being animated for television for the first time. This ‘ruthless story of lies and strategy exposing the light and dark aspects of the human psyche’ has previously inspired a live-action TV drama (2007), live-action film (2010), and stage play (2023). Renowned studio Madhouse (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Chi: ON the Movements of the Earth) will oversee the anime production.
The narrative revolves around a naive college student named Nao Kanzaki, who receives a mysterious package containing 100 million yen and the notification that she is now a participant in the Liar Game Tournament — a competition of deception where players must lie and cheat to seize each other’s money. After Nao’s funds are taken in the first round by a trusted former instructor, she seeks the assistance of a con man named Shinichi Akiyama to guide her through the Liar Game and help dismantle the game’s organizers from within.
The core creative team for the Liar Game anime includes chief director Yuzo Sato (Kaiji: The Ultimate Survivor), director Asami Kawano (My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999), series composition/screenwriter Tatsuhiko Urahata (Hajime no Ippo), character designer Kei Tsuchiya (Trillion Game), and sound director Kisuke Koizumi.

I suppose I’ve aged, too,” reflected chief director Sato. “I previously worked on the anime version of Mr. Kaitani’s other work titled One Outs, so I am excited to have this opportunity to collaborate again on his most iconic work Liar Game. I thoroughly enjoyed my time on One Outs, and I hope we can replicate that joy with this series. I’ll strive to do my best!
