The This Monster Wants to Eat Me TV anime has unveiled a “global visual.” Unlike the fluffy visual released in May, this latest illustration adopts a darker and more sinister tone, highlighting the character Shiori Oumi with her lengthy claws, seemingly stained with blood.
Additionally, it has been revealed that the premiere episode of the anime will debut in the US at Otakon in August, featuring a talk session with the manga’s creator, Sai Naekawa, the editor Takumi Kamemaru, and producer Ena Hamabe. Other international engagements include Japan Expo in Paris on July 5 and Anime Expo at the PONY CANYON booth.
This Monster Wants To Eat Me is scheduled to debut in Japan this October. The TV anime draws inspiration from the manga by Sai Naekawa, serialized in KADOKAWA’s Dengeki Maoh since October 2020, boasting 10 tankoubon volumes as of May 27, 2025 JST. Yen Press provides the following story synopsis:
Hinako, a high school student with a troubled past, lives in solitude in a coastal town. Consumed by a perpetual feeling of suffocation, she finds it hard to cope with the monotony of her life… until an unexpected encounter with a monster! After losing consciousness during the scuffle, Hinako finds herself saved by a stunning mermaid. Yet, this rescue comes with a price—the mermaid’s safeguarding will endure only until Hinako has become the ideal meal! Rather than fleeing in terror, an unusual bond forms between the monster and its prey… “I’ve come to devour you.”
