VIZ Media, a global producer of manga and anime, has revealed its newest anime co-production: Hirayasumi, which is based on the renowned manga series by Keigo Shinzo. This adaptation will be a collaborative effort between VIZ Media and Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions Co., Ltd., with Production +h handling the animation. (The Orbital Children, Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction).
Initially serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits in April 2021, Hirayasumi launched in English through VIZ in May 2024 and has garnered significant praise for its deeply emotional artwork and skillfully crafted slice-of-life narrative. The series boasts over 1.1 million copies circulating globally, with six volumes released by VIZ to date.
“I’m thrilled to learn that it’s being turned into an anime and a drama! I eagerly await both adaptations!” said Shinzo. He has created several award-winning titles, including Our Eruption Festival, Moriyamachu Driving School, Tokyo Alien Bros., and the autobiographical one-shot About the Time I Was Hospitalized for Malignant Lymphoma, which also influenced the concept of Hirayasumi.
A live-action version of Hirayasumi has also been confirmed.
