This initial gross (the film debuted on September 12, following early screenings for Crunchyroll Mega Fan or Ultimate Fan-tier members) exceeds the opening weekend total of any previous anime film, surpassing its precursor Mugen Train (around US$21 million) and reigning anime box office leader in the US, Pokémon: The First Movie – Mewtwo Strikes Back (approximately US$31 million, with inflation adjusting it to around US$61.6 million).
Furthermore, the US$33 million also surpasses the lifetime earnings of many other anime films and approaches the overall grosses of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero (US$38,112,130) and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (~US$34,542,754), ranking as the fourth and fifth top-performing anime films in the US, respectively (Pokémon the Movie 2000 holds the third place). It similarly is not far from Mugen Train‘s final tally of US$49,505,008, although the inflation-adjusted gross of Mewtwo Strikes Back (~US$170 million) remains significantly higher.
Deadline previously forecasted that Sony anticipated a US$35 million opening weekend for Infinity Castle, while other estimates anticipated an opening haul of between $45 million and $60 million.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle is reported to have debuted in 3,315 venues throughout the US.
In Japan, where it launched on July 18 JST, Infinity Castle is steadily positioning itself as the highest-grossing movie of all time (excluding inflation), with a reported total gross of 31,425,916,900 yen (~US$212.7 million), nearing Spirited Away‘s total of 31.6 billion yen, as of September 8 JST. Globally (it was released in some regions prior to the US), its gross is currently estimated at US$279,656,296.
Infinity Castle marks the beginning of a definitive trilogy for the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime series, which commenced in 2019 with its inaugural season and is based on the Shueisha-published manga by Koyoharu Gotouge. The new films portray the final confrontation between the Demon Slayer Corps and Muzan’s demons.
