The Camphorwood Custodian novel by award-winning author Keigo Higashino was initially published in 2020 in hardcover by Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha and subsequently received a paperback release in 2023. The story follows the protagonist Reito, who faces legal challenges after seeking revenge for his unjust termination. However, he is given an opportunity for freedom if he agrees to fulfill a request from a specific client, who turns out to be his aunt, asking him to take care of a camphor tree.

Previous adaptations include live-action versions, some of which are non-Japanese, of various other works by Higashino, such as The Miracles of the Namiya General Store and Himitsu.
