Naofumi Iwatani, a somewhat dull otaku who dedicates his time to video games and manga, unexpectedly finds himself transported to a parallel world! He learns he is one of four heroes wielding legendary weapons and charged with rescuing the world from impending doom. As the Shield Hero, considered the weakest among the heroes, things are not as straightforward as they seem. Naofumi soon finds himself alone, broke, and betrayed. With nowhere to go and no one to rely on, he is left with his only tool: his shield. Consequently, Naofumi must rise up to become the revered Shield Hero and secure the world’s salvation!
The Rising of the Shield Hero light novel series was initiated in August 2013 and boasts 22 volumes as of June 2019. Adaptations in the form of manga and spin-offs exist, while the narrative originally emerged as a web novel on Shousetsuka ni Narou in 2012.
