This is a game — and it is real.
Yuma Ashihara anticipated enjoying a test session of Actual Magic (AM) with his classmates but a sudden event leaves him navigating alone in a dark, forsaken building. What unfolds there initiates a reality-altering crisis.
“Devilsʼ Crest contains everything I love — death game, MMORPG, closed space, virtual world, and emotional and logical clashes, hope and despair. It was challenging to integrate all these elements into one cohesive story, but after years of groundwork, I’m thrilled to finally announce this project,” stated Reki Kawahara. “I trust this anime — crafted with a fantastic team of staff and cast — will deeply resonate with viewers in both uplifting and chilling ways. I hope you will immerse yourself in the world of Althea with Yuma and Sawa and witness their struggle for survival until the end.”
The voice cast will feature Haruka Shiraishi (Asirpa in Golden Kamuy, Alice in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) as Yuma Ashihara and Konomi Inagaki (Yoko in Touring After the Apocalypse, Lilique in Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury) as Sawa Ashihara.

“I am privileged to take on the role of Yuma Ashihara. This tale unfolds in a perilous MR death game, where elementary school students confront one challenge after another. Yuma is a compassionate boy with a strong concern for others. He shines in intense battle scenes, but also has unexpectedly charming moments,” shared Shiraishi. “This is my first experience voicing a young male lead, so when I learned I was chosen for the role, I was astounded and extremely excited. I will give my all to provide an immersive, thrilling experience for all viewers.”
Inagaki remarked, “Congratulations on the anime adaptation! I’m excited and honored to voice Sawa, Yuma’s twin sister — strong-willed, sharp-tongued, but profoundly caring. She keeps a certain secret… The worldbuilding will captivate any gaming fan, with each classmate possessing a rich and emotional storyline. The anime will also introduce developments not seen in the original novel, and we often found ourselves eager to see what would unfold next. Get ready to cheer on Yuma and his classmates as they navigate this intense world!”
Devils’ Crest is under the direction of chief director Shinji Ushiro (Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro; Yo-kai Watch) and director Kenichiro Komaya (Nina the Starry Bride, Kuzna no Allele), with series composition by Eiji Umehara (Suicide Squad Isekai, Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song), character design by Yukiko Horiguchi (Tamako Market, K-On!), and music by Yuki Hayashi and Naoyuki Chikatani. The animation production will be handled by Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell, Psycho-Pass).
